A few months ago we decided to finally do something with that dang strip of nothingness in our backyard. It is still a work-in-progress, but the trees that we picked out for the kids helped a ton!
Steve and I picked out the kind of trees that we wanted and then we let the 3 oldest pick which one they wanted of that kind. The girls got to choose from flowering crab-apple trees (no, they don't get those huge, ugly crab-apples...just small, cute ones that the birds can eat) and the boys chose from Spring Snow trees. They loved having part in picking their own trees. When we got home, Steve helped each one plant their tree - it was so much to watch them get so into the process - one of those moments that you wish you could make time stand still.
The kids are excited to watch their trees grow. They loved seeing the flowers bloom in early Spring - Olivia loved the pretty, bright pink flowers that hers and Elsie's trees have on them.
Funny how much 4 little trees can add to our yard...

What a great idea. They'll grow with their trees and it will help their future.
Jody did my hair today and said that Steve is now in the bishopbric. We will have to shake his hand!
Our one and only tree died! Thanks for the great idea to let the kids pick out their own tree.
Yes, 4 little trees and wonderful memories do make a backyard better. :)
